Everyone in the room reacts before you know where to look.

You’ll spend something like fifty hours watching football this season. More than most college courses take.

At the end of it you’ll know roughly what you know now. Watching isn’t teaching. The broadcast assumes you’re already fluent, and the announcers use the words without ever stopping to define them.

Looking it up mid-game doesn’t work either. By the time you’ve found the answer the play is over and you’ve missed the next three.

The lesson

Here’s what a lesson actually does.

Four screens, about five minutes. A Pre-Snap Read sets up the question. The Film Session teaches it one beat at a time, and where there is a call to make it asks you before it shows you. A quick check follows every beat. The Locker Room ends on what to watch for on Sunday.

How it follows the season

Three lessons a week during the season. 72 by the Super Bowl.

The first three are free and land before kickoff, so week 1 isn’t a cold start.

Lesson 15 arrives in week 4. Not because you kept something alive, but because that’s where the season is.

Miss a week and you catch up. Nothing punishes you, because nothing is counting. New lessons land through the season, and every one you’ve bought is yours for good.

Every Sunday of the regular season, one card lands on your Home screen: a single thing to watch for, drawn from what you’ve already covered. Monday it asks whether you spotted it.

That last button is the whole product. Not whether you finished a lesson. Whether you said it out loud.

The card is always drawn from what you’ve covered. Keep pace with the season and it’s about this week’s lesson.

Sentences you’ll say before the announcer does.

Every lesson ends on something to watch for. By week 3 these are yours, in the lessons’ own words:

  • PreseasonOwn 30, so they’ve got 70 to go.
  • Week 1Ball’s at the 25, so that’s a 42-yard try.
  • Week 3The play clock’s under five. They have to snap it or lose 5 yards.

And after that

  • Week 9what the officials are actually checking when they review a catch

That is the fundamentals, finished. You can stay right there. Plenty of people watch happily for decades at exactly that level and never want more.
